Koufonisi Island

Koufonisi island is one of the favourite places of tourists. This name combined a group of islands, which includes 3 small islands:

1. Pano Koufonisi.
2. Kato Koufonisi.
3. Keros.

The archipelago is washed by the waters of the Aegean Sea and is part of the Small Cyclades. Pano Koufonisi is the most popular and picturesque place and usually called simply Koufonisi. The area of ​​the island is little less than 6 square kilometres. Despite such a small territory, the island provides a worthy alternative to many large resorts in Greece.

The island has only one settlement – the port of Chora, which is located in the south-west. The village attracts attention with its pretty houses built in an unusual style, as well as old windmills. Locals are engaged in fishing. Within its territory there are many restaurants, shops and taverns where you can buy and taste delicious fresh fish and seafood.

One of the main attractions is the local churches. Here are 3 of them:

• The Church of St. George;
• The Church of Agios Nikolaos;
• The Church of the Prophet Elijah.

You will not feel boring on the island, because everyone will be captured with something to one’s liking, for example: resting on the beach and swimming. Fans of more active rest can be engaged in sport activities: diving, underwater swimming and fishing. Cycling and hiking are also very popular here. Due to the small area of ​​the island it is very comfortable to travel. So, the journey from one part of the island to another takes about 40 minutes. During this journey it is possible to get acquainted with local sights for a short period of time.

In the territory of the island there are 6 beaches, which are preserved in almost original condition. Most tourists are attracted by the beauty of the local nature, the cleanliness of the beaches and favourable climatic conditions.

The best beach of the island is Pori. It is famous for its snow-white sands, picturesque and clear turquoise sea water. Exotic nature allows you to take fantastic photos which will be as beautiful as a magazine cover or a postcard. The absolute advantage is lack of the beach infrastructure. This is a great opportunity to escape from everything and spend time surrounded by untouched nature. The length of Pori is 1.5 kilometres. For those who want to eat or enjoy the taste of drinks, there is 1 tavern.
