The central part of the pedestal is represented by statues of 4 marble lions with water flowing from their mouths.

One of the main attractions of the town is Koules Venetian Fortress built over the entrance to the harbour. The 2-floor building has the following features:

• 26 rooms were built here;
• External walls are about 9 meters thick;
• It was possible to enter the Fortress through 3 entrances;
• Marble reliefs with images of lion with wings were installed above the entrances (symbol of the Venetian Republic). Two reliefs have survived to our days.

In the central part of Heraklion there is Daidalou Street named after the brilliant mythical master Daedalus. It is completely a pedestrian area along which there are a large number of commercial establishments.

Visiting of Cretan Oceanarium

After sightseeing, we will go to the Oceanarium to see the extremely diverse world of sea life. Externally, the building looks like a large ship. Inside of it there are well-equipped cages where the most diverse representatives of the sea life are collected ranging from miniature fish to huge sharks. In total, over 250 species (2500 sea inhabitants) are collected within the Oceanarium. There are observation points near the tanks. There are about fifty such places in total. Anyone can not watch the life of underwater inhabitants, but also take a photo with them the background.
