The minibus will bring you through a beautiful landscape and small villages to the starting point of the walk. Travelling time about 45 minutes.
We start at an altitude of 500 m from sea level, decent approximately 250 m. the first few hundred meters are a little steep. Down the walking path becomes easy. Totally walking distance about 5 km. This route is just enough to don’t “suffer” from muscle pain the day after.
Halfway there is a resting point in the shadow of the trees, next to the river. Almost at the end of the gorge, we will pass from an old bridge builded at the Venetian occupation.
The Driver will pick you up from the road for 5 minutes during transfer to the village Polyrinnia, which is situated at an altitude of 400 m.
We will visit the small village which has been builded with the materials that remained from the archeological city of Polyrinnia. There has been a renovation of the ancient aqua duct and we can see a lot of old-style houses and an old olive factory which is not in use anymore.
We can visit the workshop of Mr. George; he is making the most beautiful things from olive tree wood. We can have a small break in the shadow.
Returning to your accommodation, there is possibility to stop somewhere at a small tavern.
In the gorge, you will meet a lot of trees such as olive, plane, chestnut and a lot of species.
We are mostly lucky to see the Griffons flying above our heads.
Wear walking or sport shoes, a cap, and sunglasses.
Take a bottle of water and a small snack.
The walk does not have a high difficulty level, but is not recommended for people with walking problems or other serious health problems. Children love this gorge.
